Apple Appoints Indian-Origin Sabih Khan as New COO

Apple Inc. has announced the appointment of an Indian-origin executive, Sabih Khan as its Chief Operating Officer (COO) taking over Jeff Williams. The declaration which was done makes it a landmark decision to the tech giant because Khan, who has served in Apple 30years before taking over the position later this month. Born in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh in 1966, Khan will be reporting to CEO Tim Cook and will be second most powerful executive at the firm.

Khan, who is 58 and was hired by Apple in 1995, has played a crucial role in making the global supply chain possible. Since 2019, he has been the Senior Vice President of Operations that oversees the manufacturing, procurement, logistics, and supplier responsibility programs and promotes innovations in advanced manufacturing and sustainability. In his management, Apple went to cut its carbon footprint by more than 60 percent, to which his counterpart Cook credited and defined Khan as a brilliant strategist who leads with his heart and believes in values.

Khan was born in Moradabad, after which he went to Singapore to study at school and finally went to the United States. He has a master of mechanical engineering degree (MPM) degree and two undergraduate degrees in economics and mechanical engineering, all of them post-graduate school. Before joining apple, Khan had worked in GE Plastics as applications development engineer. The strategic vision and wide experience of his have played an essential role in the success of Apple operations, especially in facing the impact of the world crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the breakthrough in producing goods in India.

Jeff Williams, who was the COO since 2015, will step down later this year after being the driving force behind Apple Watch and Apple Health. With Apple dealing with regulatory headaches and striving to strengthen its production in India, the appointment of Khan suggests stability and creativity. Under his management, Apple will enhance its supply chain resilience and sustainability, making the company remain at the top of the global technology market.
