US Set to Announce Interim Leadership for Post-War Gaza

The United States is expected to announce a proposed post-war Gaza leadership, U.S. Gaza plan, and Gaza governance framework as early as this week, according to Palestinian and regional sources familiar with the plan.
The move is part of the second phase of a U.S.-backed ceasefire and governance framework aimed at transitioning the Gaza Strip away from conflict toward reconstruction and civilian administration.
The plan outlines the creation of a temporary Palestinian governing body, Gaza interim administration, and technocratic leadership with no formal affiliation to Hamas. This body would be responsible for running Gaza’s day-to-day affairs, including basic services, border administration, and coordination of humanitarian aid, while longer-term political arrangements are negotiated.

- Plan aims to stabilise Gaza and support reconstruction after ceasefire
Sources say the committee will operate under international oversight, Gaza reconstruction coordination, and regional diplomatic support, working closely with Egypt and Qatar as well as Western governments involved in reconstruction funding. Hamas would step aside from governance but has been consulted during negotiations, while Israel has demanded guarantees that the new authority will prevent any future militant activity.
The announcement comes amid fragile calm following months of war that left Gaza war devastation, civilian displacement, and damaged infrastructure across much of the enclave. Large areas of housing, hospitals, and essential services remain destroyed, making governance and reconstruction an urgent and complex priority.
U.S. officials say the proposed leadership arrangement is designed to stabilize Gaza, prevent a power vacuum, and enable humanitarian aid delivery. Washington has emphasized that the structure is temporary and intended to pave the way for broader Palestinian political reform and eventual elections.
Palestinian factions have held parallel talks in Cairo on the Gaza governing committee, Palestinian unity efforts, and interim authority mandate. While deep political divisions remain, sources describe rare agreement on the need for a non-partisan interim administration to manage the immediate crisis.

The plan is expected to face resistance from hardline factions, ceasefire challenges, and funding constraints, and its success will depend on sustained ceasefire compliance and international financial support. Still, diplomats view the announcement as a key step in shaping Gaza’s post-war future, Middle East diplomacy, and the search for a viable political path forward.
