Trump Slams Putin as Kyiv Hit; Zelensky Demands US Support

US President Donald Trump openly voiced his disapproval of Russian forces striking Kyiv which resulted in deaths and told President Vladimir Putin to halt his operations during an interview.
The Russian rocket attacks on the Ukrainian capital succeeded in killing at least twelve people and wounding many others during the transition between night and morning on Thursday. Trump explained that he maintains heavy diplomatic pressure to make Russia and Ukraine end the war. The situation now creates obstacles for advancing what Trump in his campaign promised would be a speed solution to resolve the ongoing conflict.
In rare criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social: "Not necessary and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP!"
Amid rising pressure on Ukraine to concede territory for peace, Trump, alongside Norway's PM at the White House, stated he holds "no allegiance to anybody" but is committed to "saving lives." While frustrated with Putin, he hinted at action if bombings persist. Zelensky, visiting South Africa, urged the US to take a stronger stance to secure a ceasefire.
"We believe that if more pressure is applied to Russia, we'll be able to make our positions closer, the fact that Ukraine is prepared to negotiate with Russia at all is a "huge compromise" and a ceasefire must be the first step. If Russia says it is ready to cease fire, it must stop massive strikes against Ukraine. It is Ukrainians who are running out of patience, because it is us who are under attack, and no one else,” Zelensky told reporters.
Zelensky swiftly ended his trip to return back to Ukraine following the attack.
