Trump Announces Microsoft in Negotiations to Purchase TikTok

President Donald Trump said that Microsoft is in discussions to obtain TikTok, shortly after the social media platform went offline last week. He also conveyed a strong desire to watch a bidding war for the popular platform.

Trump had mentioned earlier that he was in talks with various parties regarding the possible mergers of TikTok, which has around 170 million users in the United States and specified that a decision on the app’s future would be made within the next 30 days, according to the sources.

The app was temporarily taken offline just before a law requiring ByteDance to either sell TikTok or face a ban went into effect on January 19. However, after taking office on January 20, Trump signed an executive order putting off the enforcement of the law for 75 days.

The law was enacted due to concerns that the app was improperly handling its users' data.
