Sunil Bharti Mittal said on Tuesday that the India-UK Free Trade Agreement is not only a watershed moment in bilateral relations, but also the beginning of a new era of flourishing bilateral cooperation, shared innovation, and improved people-to-people connections.

The founder and chairman of Bharti Enterprises also stated that India and the United Kingdom represent a burgeoning wealth of ideas, talents, and resources.

India and the United Kingdom signed a landmark free trade agreement on Tuesday that will reduce tariffs on 99 percent of Indian exports and make it easier for British firms to export whisky, cars, and other products to India, while also expanding the overall trade basket.

The two parties signed a double contribution convention in addition to the FTA, which is the largest the UK has done since exiting the EU.

"This is not only a significant turning point in the history of our two great countries' relations, but it also holds the potential to be the beginning of an era of flourishing bilateral cooperation, shared innovation, and improved people-to-people connections," Mittal said in a statement following the successful conclusion of the India-UK free trade agreement negotiations.
