South Korea has signed an agreement to join the United Arab Emirates’ Stargate UAE project, a large-scale data-infrastructure initiative aimed at building one of the world’s most extensive data centres.

The deal was finalised during a summit in Abu Dhabi between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Both governments described the partnership as a strategic move to deepen cooperation in technology, supply chains, and future investment.

Stargate UAE is being led by state-backed firm G42, working with major global tech companies, and is designed to support high-capacity data processing and cloud operations at scale. The project is expected to serve as a major hub for next-generation digital services.

For South Korea, the agreement aligns with its broader industrial goals. Companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are positioned to supply semiconductors and other components required for the project. Korean firms have already begun preliminary discussions on technology supply and long-term collaboration.

The UAE is also seeking South Korean support in strengthening the project’s power infrastructure. This includes potential cooperation in nuclear, gas and renewable-energy systems to ensure the data campus has stable and scalable electricity sources.

Officials from both countries said the partnership signals a deeper shift in global technology cooperation, where Asian manufacturing capabilities, Gulf investment strength and international tech firms are increasingly converging.
