Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a moment to thank U.S President Donald Trump for his warm Diwali greetings and a recent phone call, highlighting the strong bond between India and the United States, two of the world’s leading democracies.
On Wednesday morning, Modi shared his gratitude on X, writing, “Thank you, President Trump, for your call and heartfelt Diwali wishes. On this festival of lights, may our nations continue to spread hope and stand together against terrorism in all its forms.” His message captured the spirit of Diwali – a Hindu festival celebrating the victory of good over evil – while emphasizing the shared values of both countries.
Earlier, Trump hosted a Diwali celebration at the White House, sending festive greetings to the Indian community and people worldwide. Speaking to the press, he mentioned a “great conversation” with Modi, blending holiday warmth with talks on trade and peace.

“I spoke with your Prime Minister today, and we had a great talk about trade and more,” Trump said. He also praised Modi’s efforts in maintaining stability, noting, “We discussed avoiding conflicts, like between India and Pakistan, and that’s a very good thing. He’s a great person and a great friend.”
The exchange comes as India and the U.S deepen ties in areas like defense and technology. Despite occasional trade tensions – including recent U.S tariffs on Indian goods over India’s oil purchases from Russia – the leaders’ rapport remains strong. Analysts see this Diwali moment as a sign of enduring partnership. “It’s a reminder of shared goals, from counter-terrorism to regional stability,” said policy expert Dr. Arjun Patel.
