Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will attend the ASEAN summit in Manila, Philippines, later this month. He will join several global leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The Philippine government confirmed Lula's participation on Friday, November 6. He will attend the gathering as a guest of the summit chair, according to Dominic Imperial, the Philippine Foreign Department's spokesperson for ASEAN issues.
The ASEAN summit, organized by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, will take place from November 15 to 18. The event will bring together regional leaders and international partners for discussions on key global and regional issues.
Lula, Trump and Carney Among Confirmed Attendees
Lula, 81, secured a surprise election victory last month against Flavio Bolsonaro. US President Donald Trump later described the Brazilian election as a "disgrace."
Following the election, Bolsonaro left Brazil for the United States last week. His departure was described as the beginning of a self-imposed exile.
Trump, Lula and Carney are among the prominent international leaders expected to attend the Manila gathering.
Their participation adds to the international significance of the ASEAN summit, which provides a platform for discussions between Southeast Asian nations and their global partners.
