Israel Strikes Lebanon After Hezbollah Attacks, Widening Iran Conflict

Israel strikes Lebanon after renewed Hezbollah attacks, expanding the wider Iran conflict across the region. The Israeli military said early Monday that its warplanes carried out Beirut airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions in the southern suburbs of the capital and other areas of Lebanon.
The strikes followed launches of cross-border missiles and drones from Lebanese territory into Israel. Explosions were reported in the Hezbollah-controlled Dahieh district, prompting residents to flee.
Hezbollah confirmed it had fired rockets and drones at Israel, saying the attacks were in response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint U.S.-Israeli operation last week. The group described the launches as retaliation for Iranian losses.

Israel said it intercepted at least one projectile, while others landed in open areas. The military blamed Hezbollah for the escalation and warned civilians in several Lebanese towns near the border to evacuate.
The strikes in Beirut were among the most intense since the ceasefire that ended the 2024 Israel-Hezbollah war. That truce had halted more than a year of fighting along the Israel-Lebanon border but remained fragile amid ongoing tensions linked to Iran.
The exchange marks a sharp escalation in the broader Middle East crisis that began with coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian military targets, including missile facilities and command centers. Iran has since responded with attacks on Israeli and U.S. interests in the region.
The United States confirmed the deaths of three service members in Kuwait tied to the Iran campaign. President Donald Trump said military operations could continue for weeks.
