Dr. Alan Hedge, the World-Renowned Ergonomics Expert, on Two-City Speaking Tour in India

By Global Leaders Insights Team | May 21, 2025

New York head-quartered Humanscale, the global leader in workplace ergonomics, is proud to announce it will host Dr. Alan Hedge, Professor Emeritus at Cornell University and one of the world’s foremost authorities on ergonomics, during his upcoming two-city speaking tour in India later this month.

As part of his global tour to promote the critical role of ergonomics in the workplace, Dr. Hedge will deliver independent and compelling keynote presentations at two exclusive thought-leadership events titled "Designing for Health & Wellness: Ergonomics in the Modern Workplace." The events will be held at Mumbai at the Sofitel on 27th May and the other at Bengaluru at the JW Marriott on 29th May, to an audience of prominent Architects & Designers and key corporate decision-makers.

Dr. Alan has been described by a former President of the International Ergonomics Association as "the most frequently cited ergonomist in the media”. He spent over 30 years as Professor at Cornell University heading the Ergonomics program and has served as the Chair of the Organisational Design and Management Technical Group of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. His expertise has shaped NASA’s workspace design for astronauts as well as that of Fortune 500 companies and global policy makers. He has also been featured in media around the world including BBC, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, CNN & TIME magazine.

With work evolving across home and office settings, employees now face diverse environments and extended hours at workstations, meeting rooms, and collaborative zones. This shift has amplified the need for ergonomic solutions that adapt to varied setups and address risks like prolonged sitting and poor posture — key contributors to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

Dr. Hedge will highlight how investing in high-quality ergonomic design not only enhances employee well-being but also drives measurable business outcomes, including improved productivity, reduced absenteeism, and lower healthcare costs. By prioritising ergonomics, organizations and design professionals can create healthier, more efficient workplaces for all.

“This is yet another landmark initiative by Humanscale, in association with our Authorised India Distribution Partner, S Cube Ergonomics Pvt Ltd, to further strengthen our ongoing drive to build an ergonomic India.” said Alastair Stubbs, Country Director India, Humanscale. “By facilitating this tour, Humanscale demonstrates its commitment to science-based ergonomic principles that prioritise both human wellbeing and environmental responsibility, creating solutions that adapt to how we actually work today — whether at home, in traditional offices, or anywhere in between.”

“Through his insights, Dr. Alan aims to reassert the vital role of ergonomics in today’s workplace — a priority that has diminished in many design and product decisions post-COVID. By spotlighting its critical impact on employee well-being, productivity, and overall workplace performance, we hope to bring ergonomics back to the forefront of workplace strategy — benefiting both employers and employees alike.” added Sathish Nandagopal, Founder & Director, S Cube Ergonomics Pvt Ltd.
