BAI Communications Names Mat Jones as New CEO, Starting January 2027

BAI Communications has appointed Mat Jones as its new Chief Executive Officer, with the leadership change set to take effect on January 1, 2027.

Jones will succeed Peter Lambourne, who will remain in the role until the end of 2026 to support the transition. The appointment follows a global search by BAI’s board for a leader with experience in digital infrastructure, growth and customer delivery.

The leadership change comes as BAI Communications continues to expand its presence across critical communications infrastructure, including broadcasting, public safety, rail, mobile networks, mining and energy.

The company has recently secured major projects and expanded its capabilities through the acquisition of Titan ICT, adding to its existing infrastructure portfolio in Australia.

Mat Jones Brings 25 Years of Industry Experience

Jones brings around 25 years of industry experience to BAI Communications. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Amplitel, a telecommunications tower company created following the acquisition of approximately 8,000 towers from Telstra. Before joining Amplitel, Jones advised on the transaction that helped establish the tower business.

During his time at Amplitel, Jones worked across the company’s operations and helped develop its position in the telecommunications infrastructure market. His background in telecommunications towers and digital infrastructure was among the factors considered by BAI’s board during the appointment process.

BAI Chairman Bart Vogel said Jones brings the experience and operational capabilities needed to support the company’s growth strategy. The board’s search focused on finding a leader capable of managing complex infrastructure environments while responding to opportunities in both established and emerging sectors.

Jones said he was joining BAI at an important stage in the company’s development. He highlighted BAI’s work across essential communications infrastructure and said he looked forward to working with the board, executive team and employees as the company develops its next phase.

BAI operates communications infrastructure supporting a range of public and private-sector customers. Its broadcast network reaches 99% of Australia’s population, while the company also provides connectivity and communications systems for governments, transport operators, mobile network operators, enterprises and venues.

Leadership Transition Planned Through End of 2026

Outgoing CEO Peter Lambourne will continue leading BAI until December 31, 2026. He will then support Jones during the transition and assist with the transfer of knowledge about the company’s customers, markets and operations. BAI’s executive leadership team will remain in place during the transition, while its board and shareholder structure will also remain unchanged.

Lambourne is retiring after more than four decades in the industry. BAI said his leadership played an important role in developing the company and strengthening its position in communications infrastructure. He will work with Jones over the coming months to help ensure continuity across the business.

The appointment comes after several developments at BAI. These include its work on the Sydney Metro West project, management of the NSW Public Safety Network, long-standing relationships with Australian broadcasters and the acquisition of Titan ICT. Titan ICT was rebranded as BAI Communications in May 2026 and expanded the company’s capabilities across mining, resources and energy.

BAI is backed by CPP Investments as its majority shareholder, with AIMCo as a minority shareholder. CPP Investments welcomed Jones’ appointment and said his industry experience and operational background would support the company as it enters its next phase.

Jones will officially take over as CEO on January 1, 2027, beginning a new leadership phase for BAI Communications as it continues developing its digital infrastructure, public safety communications, broadcasting infrastructure, telecommunications networks, transport connectivity, and critical infrastructure businesses across Australia.
