According to Bloomberg, representatives of businessman Gautam Adani have met with officials from President Donald Trump's administration to discuss the possibility of dropping criminal charges filed against him in connection with an overseas bribery investigation.

The meetings reportedly began earlier this year and have increased in recent weeks. If the current pace continues, the matter could be resolved within a month.

According to Bloomberg, Adani's representatives have argued that the case is not in line with President Donald Trump's current policy priorities and have asked that it be reconsidered.

Along with his nephew Sagar Adani, Adani, the owner of the global conglomerate Adani Group, was charged. Gautam Adani is accused of offering $250 million in bribes to Indian state officials in order to obtain contracts for solar energy. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) also filed a parallel civil suit. All of the accusations have been refuted by the Adani Group.

Adani has partnered with a number of American law and lobbying firms in an attempt to reduce legal and financial risks. According to reports, prosecutors from the Brooklyn-based US Attorney's Office met with Department of Justice officials in March.
