Johnny Boufarhat: Visionary Who Turned Isolation Into Innovation
By Johnny Boufarhat , Founder

Johnny Boufarhat is the founder of Hopin, a platform that allows users to host and attend virtual, hybrid, and in-person events.
Johnny Boufarhat founded Hopin in 2019, transforming a personal challenge into a global business achievement. Boufarhat had an autoimmune condition that confined him to his home. So he identified a gap in remote networking and built Hopin as a virtual events platform. In 2020 the hit of the COVID-19 pandemic, couldn't have been more perfect for Hopin, events were forced to be online and it catapulted Hopin into the spotlight. Boufarhat wanted to develop a flexible and smooth virtual gathering system that would allow everything from meetings to conferences.
Under his leadership, Hopin grew at an unprecedented speed. Hopin started its operations with just six employees in February 2020, but by mid-2021 Hopin scaled to over 800 fueled by a surge in demand for digital solutions. Boufarhat's strategy was based on quick thinking and bold actions, during multiple rounds, he raised over $1 billion in venture capital, including a 400 million USD Series C in 2021 that valued Hopin at 5.65 billion USD, making it a unicorn in record time. He also searched for profitable purchases to expand Hopin's product offerings and revenue sources, such as the 250 million USD purchase of the video streaming service Streamyard.
By August 2021 Hopin's value skyrocketed to 7.75 billion USD and Boufarhat became one of Britain’s youngest self-made billionaires at the age of 27. Hopin's future was later tested by the post-pandemic return to live events, but Boufarhat's early leadership and flexibility secured its unicorn status and highlighted how vision, timing, and bold action can completely transform an industry.
