Walmart is making leadership changes in its global business, according to an internal memo posted on Jan. 17 by Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner, Sam's Club CEO Chris Nicholas, and Walmart International CEO Kath McLay. Walmart said the executive changes take effect on February 1.
According to the memo obtained by Talk Business & Politics, Lance de la Rosa will be promoted from chief operating officer at Sam's Club to executive vice president of new initiatives and omni-fulfillment at Walmart United States.
Dave Guggina will take over as chief commerce officer, replacing Tom Ward, who is leaving to work for Sam's Club. Rob Montgomery will take over the role of executive vice president of supply chain, which Guggina previously held. Megan Crozier will leave Sam's Club and rejoin Walmart as executive vice president of general merchandise.
Ward will take on the role of chief operating officer at Sam's Club, where he will oversee the end-to-end execution of the omni experience, including supply chain and e-commerce for the wholesale club business. Julie Barber, who is also leaving Walmart, will take over as chief merchandising officer, replacing Crozier. Diana Marshall will become Sam's Club's chief experience officer, overseeing membership, product, design, marketing, and advertising.
Venessa Yates will become the new CEO of Walmart Canada. She is transitioning from general manager of Walmart+ in the United States. McLay stated that Yates has diverse retail experience from ALDI and Woolworths. She joined Walmart in 2016 and will replace Gonzola Gebara, who is leaving to return to Argentina to pursue other interests, according to the memo. Gebara spent 25 years with Walmart, managing business units in the United States, Argentina, Chile, and Canada.
Steve Schrobilgen, a senior vice president in the U.S. business, will join Yates in Canada as chief operating officer, responsible for operations, supply chain, and real estate. Yates and Schrobilgen will relocate while they await their immigration status.
McLay stated that Chad Donath, a senior vice president of club operations at Sam's Club, will take on a similar role for Walmart International.
