U.S. & Azerbaijan Sign Strategic Partnership During Vance Visit

The United States and Azerbaijan signed a strategic partnership charter in Baku on Tuesday, formalising closer cooperation in security, defence, energy and economic affairs, according to officials from both countries.

The move strengthens the U.S.–Azerbaijan strategic partnership at a time of shifting dynamics in the South Caucasus geopolitics.

The agreement was signed during a visit by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, marking a high-profile J.D. Vance Azerbaijan visit. Azerbaijan’s government said the document covers defence cooperation, trade, energy security, transport links and technology. Aliyev said the charter would guide bilateral relations in the coming years and expand U.S.–Azerbaijan security ties, building on existing defence and economic engagement.

Vance said the partnership would support shared interests in regional stability and security. As part of the agreement, the United States plans to provide additional naval vessels to Azerbaijan to support Azerbaijan Caspian Sea security, though officials did not disclose the number or delivery timeline. The move reflects growing U.S. defense cooperation Azerbaijan.
