United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met with Indian leaders in the renewable energy sector during his visit to India for the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.

Guterres shared insights on the global transition to clean energy, stating, "The clean energy future is within reach - but we need a system-wide transformation to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels." He highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry, finance, policy, and civil society to drive this change.

In addition to discussions on renewable energy, Guterres addressed the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in global governance during the summit. He stressed the urgency of international cooperation, pointing out that AI innovation is progressing faster than society's ability to fully understand its impacts. "If we want AI to serve humanity, policy cannot be built on guesswork," he said, urging nations to trust facts and share knowledge across borders.

He discussed the newly formed Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence aimed at bridging the AI knowledge gap globally. "This panel is designed to help countries at all levels of AI capacity move forward with clarity and evidence," he explained.

The summit brought together global policymakers, tech experts, and civil society leaders to promote practical, science-driven solutions for AI governance.
