Trump Withdraws Canada’s Invitation to Join 'Board of Peace'

U.S. President Donald Trump has withdrawn Canada’s invitation to join his newly established Board of Peace, a move following a public confrontation with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The Board of Peace, announced as a platform for resolving global conflicts, had initially extended the invitation to Canada, but Trump’s decision to revoke it has raised tensions between the two nations.
The conflict began after Carney delivered a speech at Davos in which he criticized the erosion of the “rules-based global order” and condemned the use of economic measures, including tariffs, by major powers as tools of coercion. His remarks were interpreted as a veiled criticism of U.S. policies under Trump and were met with strong applause from the forum’s global audience.

Trump quickly responded, stating that Canada “lives because of the United States” and attacked Carney for failing to acknowledge U.S. support. Carney, however, later rebutted Trump’s comments, emphasizing that while Canada maintains a strong partnership with the U.S., it is a sovereign nation that does not depend on its neighbor’s policies for survival.
Trump made his decision to withdraw Canada’s invitation public through a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. The Board of Peace, a body aimed at resolving global conflicts with a focus on Gaza, is intended to attract global leaders who will each contribute a minimum of $1 billion. The initiative has gained backing from a U.N. Security Council resolution, although several major U.S. allies, including the United Kingdom, France, and Italy, have declined to participate.

The exclusion of Canada marks a sharp departure from initial plans, where Carney had been expected to take part. The diplomatic rupture highlights growing tensions between Canada and the U.S. under Trump’s leadership and underscores broader debates over international cooperation and the future of global leadership.
