President Donald Trump will review a final proposal for TikTok as the April 5 deadline draws near, according to Fox News. The meeting in the Oval Office will include Vice President JD Vance, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
The administration is said to be finalizing plans for potential investors, which may include Blackstone, Oracle, and a range of other major investors, including prominent private equity firms, venture capitalists, and tech industry giants, as first reported by CBS News.
Shortly after assuming office, Trump issued an executive order giving ByteDance until April 5 to sell TikTok to an American buyer or face the platform's shutdown.
The president told reporters that a deal would be reached by Saturday, highlighting the strong interest in the company.
"We are working on TikTok. We have a lot of potential buyers," Trump said. "There's tremendous interest in TikTok. … We have a great team of people essentially taking bids. You have a lot of people that want to buy TikTok. We're dealing with China also on it, because they may have something to do with it. We'll see how that goes."
President Trump told Fox News' Peter Doocy that the negotiations are not currently linked to a larger tariff agreement with China, but he remains "flexible."
"I'm a very flexible person," Trump said. "… Maybe I'll make some concessions if I get approval for something. I haven't decided yet—maybe I will, maybe I won’t."
He added the decision is his.
"The decision's going to be my decision," Trump said. "As you know, through Congress, they've given me the power to make that decision."
During the presidential campaign, Trump stated he would "never ban TikTok" after joining the platform. However, during his first term in office, he pushed for a ban, citing concerns over national security.
