Trump to Meet NYC Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani at White House

U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House on Friday, November 21, 2025 — their first official encounter since his election.

The meeting was arranged after Mamdani’s team contacted the White House. Trump confirmed the date on social media, saying the Oval Office meeting would take place on Friday.

Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, defeated Trump-backed opponent Andrew Cuomo in the recent mayoral race.

Both sides have been openly critical of each other: Trump threatened to withhold federal funding if Mamdani won, and Mamdani has criticised Trump’s immigration policy and foreign-policy stance.

A spokesperson for Mamdani said the agenda will include public safety, economic security, and affordability. The federal government is expected to provide about $7.4 billion to New York City in fiscal year 2026 — roughly 6.4% of the city’s total spending — underscoring the importance of federal-city relations.
