Trump Rules Out Running for Third Term

US President Donald Trump denies running for a third term as president although experts assert that constitutional restrictions prohibit such a presidential run.

"I'll be an eight-year president, I'll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important," Trump told NBC's Meet the Press with Kristen Welker in an interview that aired on Sunday.

In previous statements Trump showed his serious intent to run for president three times or even potentially four times. The current age of Trump is 78. Trump explained through the media that he used the fake news statements as a trolling tactic. The Trump Organization produces "Trump 2028" caps which spark predictions that Donald Trump will attempt to stay in the White House beyond his second presidential term that terminates in January 2029. The recorded interview from his Florida residence on Friday revealed that Trump received numerous requests from different people asking him to consider running for president again.

"So many people want me to do it. It's something that, to the best of my knowledge, you're not allowed to do. I don't know if that's constitutional that they're not allowing you to do it or anything else,” Trump said.

He added that "there are many people selling the 2028 hat. But this is not something I'm looking to do," he said, going on to list Republicans who could take his place, including Vice-President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

No individual can receive more than two presidential elections per their lifetime according to the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution. The two-thirds support of both Senate and House members together with three-quarters of state-level government endorsements are required to modify the Constitution. Supporters of Donald Trump claim to find an untried constitutional loophole that exists according to their interpretation. Asked by NBC whether anyone has approached him with these theories, Trump deflected, answering that "in a capacity of being a big supporter, many people have said different things".
