The Trump administration has ordered the termination of $5.1 billion in IT services contracts with companies including Accenture and Deloitte.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered that the services be terminated. He stated that the contracts "represent non-essential spending on third-party consultants" for services that Pentagon employees can provide. "These terminations represent $5.1 billion in wasteful spending ... and nearly $4 billion in estimated savings," he added.

Meanwhile, billionaire Elon Musk said at a White House cabinet meeting on Thursday that the Department of Government Efficiency's (DOGE) work will result in $150 billion in savings by FY2026.

He had previously stated that DOGE could find $1 trillion in savings.

"Elon has done a fantastic job. He is sitting here. I don't care; I don't need Elon for any reason other than that I like him. I am telling you, this guy did an excellent job. I don't need his car; I actually purchased one. They asked, "Did you get a bargain?" I replied, "No, give me the highest price." I paid a lot of money for that car, but he builds great cars. Do you know what I do with it? "I let people from the office drive it around," he stated.

Musk is also said to have made "personal appeals" to Trump over the tariffs imposed by the administration on the country's trading partners. According to the Washington Post, Musk's "attempted intervention" has not been successful thus far.
