The Moth, the nonprofit known for live personal storytelling, has named Gina Duncan as its new chief executive officer, the organization announced on January 29, 2026. Duncan is the first CEO hired from outside The Moth in its nearly 30-year history.

Duncan was chosen after a nationwide search for a leader to push The Moth nonprofit mission forward while navigating the next stage of expansion. She has more than two decades of experience in arts leadership, institutional strategy, audience development, and organizational growth.

Gabrielle Glore, board chair of The Moth, said Duncan’s background in strategic leadership and institutional change made her a strong fit. Glore highlighted Duncan’s commitment to storytelling as a means to foster empathy and connection among audiences.

Under her leadership, BAM grew audiences, expanded programming and secured increased funding.

Earlier in her career, Duncan was producing director at the Sundance Institute, overseeing operations for the Sundance Film Festival and year-round artist programs. She also held senior roles at BAM in film programming and marketing.

Duncan will begin her role on February 4, 2026, succeeding Sarah Haberman, who stepped down in December 2025 after 13 years as CEO. In her first statement, Duncan said she looked forward to helping The Moth continue to create spaces where true personal stories connect people.
