The Saudi leadership has issued a congratulatory message to Joseph Aoun for being elected as president of Lebanon, this was reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The Saudi officially confirmed it through the statements from officials, regarding the election of Joseph Aoun as President of Lebanon.
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, congratulated Joseph Aoun, although the election just concluded, along with the oath-taking. So excelling was the King Salman wish for him as it was conveyed through him for success to President Aoun and all the more shining avenues for progress and prosperity for the Lebanese people.
In a message of equal kind, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman also conveyed to President Aoun a note of congratulations, with a wish for success and continued progress and prosperity for the people of Lebanon.
The legislature adopted that Joseph Aoun, military command of Lebanon be the newly elected president, as Senate voting favors him on Thursday. He was voted 99 votes during the second round but didn't qualify for the necessary 86 votes during the first round.
Aoun thus honors the void presidency left after the term of his predecessor, Michel Aoun, ended in October 2022.
His election follows the ceasefire signed between Hezbollah and Israel, thus ending 14 months of fighting between the two sides. The effective date is in November 2024 and adds to the Lebanese army deployment of many more forces to the south, while both Israel and Hezbollah withdraw.
