By Global Leaders Insights Team | May 12, 2025

Renault has announced a revised business plan for India, which includes a new model lineup as part of the'renault.rethink' Transformation Strategy. The French carmaker claims that its new design center in Chennai is the biggest outside of Europe.

A 1.5 million Euro (Rs 14.68 crore) investment produced the Renault Design Centre Chennai (RDCC), the company's second design studio in India after one that was founded in Pune in 2005. The facility is Renault's second largest global design studio, following its flagship facility in Paris.

The new studio was opened by Renault Group chief design officer Laurens van den Acker, Renault India VP of sales and marketing Francisco Hidalgo, Renault India CEO and MD Venkatram Mamillapalle, and India design studio head Julien Sabatier. This new centre, which spans 15,000 square metres, will be in charge of designing new cars for not only India but also other international markets such as Europe.

Renault India plans five new models by April 2027

By April 2027, Renault intends to introduce five new models—including both new and updated versions of its current lineup—in India. Additionally, the business affirmed that a sunroof will be an option for all future models. A locally produced electric vehicle, updated Kiger and Triber models, and B- and C-segment SUVs, including the next-generation Duster and a 7-seater variant, will all be part of the new lineup.

According to earlier reports, the third-generation Duster will go on sale in 2026, and the seven-seater model will follow soon after. Dacia's Bigster concept, which made its debut in 2021, will serve as the basis for both SUVs. At the event, Renault also unveiled a 3D sculpture that we believe is a sneak peek at the next generation Duster.

Based on the CMF-A platform, one of Renault's next EVs will probably be a highly customized Dacia Spring EV. For those who don't know, the Renault Kwid is the new name for the Dacia Spring's ICE variant in India. The all-electric variant is probably going to be referred to as the Kwid EV in  India. Upgraded interiors and major design changes are also anticipated for the upcoming Kiger and Triber models.
