PM Modi Awarded with Ghana’s Highest State Honour, 'Officer of the Order of the Star'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received 'The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana', the country's national honour, for his "distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership". Ghana's President, John Dramani Mahama, presented the Prime Minister with the award.

Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, "Honoured to be conferred with 'The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana'." He went on to say that the honour is dedicated to our youth's bright future, their aspirations, our rich cultural diversity, and India-Ghana's historical ties.

"This honor comes with a responsibility: to continue working toward a stronger India-Ghana friendship. "India will always stand with the people of Ghana and continue to contribute as a trusted friend and development partner," he said.

The Prime Minister received the award in recognition of his "distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership," according to a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Thanking Ghana's people and government for the special gesture, the prime minister stated that the "shared democratic values and traditions of the two countries would continue to nurture the partnership".

The award, he claimed, "further deepens the friendship between the two countries and places new responsibility on him to embrace and advance bilateral ties." According to the MEA, Modi expressed confidence that his "historic" state visit to Ghana would re-energize India-Ghana relations.

Notably, PM Modi's visit to Ghana is the first by an Indian prime minister in three decades. The Prime Minister is in Ghana for the first leg of his five-nation tour.
