OpenAI Plans a More Personal GPT-6 After GPT-5 Criticism
By Global Leaders Insights Team | Aug 22, 2025
OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has shared that the next AI model, GPT-6, will focus on being more customizable for users, responding to mixed feedback about the recently released GPT-5.
According to reports, users found GPT-5 less engaging and overly formal compared to the earlier GPT-4o, leading OpenAI to bring back access to GPT-4o for paying customers.
GPT-5, launched on August 7, 2025, was promoted as OpenAI’s most advanced AI yet, with better accuracy, speed, and problem-solving skills.
However, many users felt it lacked the friendly, relatable tone of GPT-4o. On platforms like Reddit and X, some called GPT-5 a “corporate beige zombie,” missing the warmth of its predecessor.

In response, Altman said the team has tweaked GPT-5 to sound “warmer and friendlier” by adding small touches like saying “Good question” during chats, while avoiding overly eager responses.
The backlash showed how much some users connect emotionally with AI models, with a few even feeling a sense of loss over changes to their “AI companions.” Altman noted that less than 1% of ChatGPT’s 700 million users form unhealthy attachments but stressed the importance of creating AI that feels approachable. GPT-6 aims to address this by letting users shape its tone and personality to better match their preferences.
Altman also shared bigger plans for OpenAI, including possible projects in brain-computer interfaces and an AI-powered social media platform. However, he admitted challenges, like a shortage of GPUs, which limits rolling out more advanced models. “We’ve got better models ready, but we can’t launch them yet because of capacity issues,” he told reporters at a recent dinner. He also mentioned the need for massive investments in data centers, potentially costing trillions.

Looking ahead, Altman is hopeful about GPT-6, promising a shorter wait than the gap between GPT-4 and GPT-5. With a focus on personalization, OpenAI aims to create an AI that feels more like a trusted friend.
