Citing the Trump administration's decision to permit Nvidia to resume sales of a crucial AI chip created especially for China, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated on Friday that artificial intelligence (AI) will continue to advance with or without the United States' support, according to reports.

The CEO of Nvidia also expressed hope that the actions taken in reaction to Beijing would be adequate.

Key Highlights

  • NVIDIA CEO asserts AI will progress globally regardless, defending planned H20 China sales as non-security threat to Trump.
  • Post Trump meeting, NVIDIA resumes H20 exports to China, halts production but emphasizes chips pose no national security risk.

As US trade tensions with China grew, Trump approved the sale of the comparatively "less powerful" H20 chip to China last month after outlawing it in April. "Very grateful that the US has approved a license to export to China," Huang said in reference to the H20 chip.

Jensen Huang went on to say that there is no national security issue with shipping H20 to China. It is not up to us to decide whether to offer China a new product for AI data centers, the successor to H20.

"I told President Trump that AI will progress with or without the United States," he said. "Hopefully the response we have given to China will be sufficient," Jensen Huang continued.
