NLCO's Chairman Manzoor Wangnoo wins Global Recognition in Maldives Summit

Manzoor Wangnoo, Chairman of Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization was honored in the sector of Sustainable Development by the prestigious Global Leaders Conference that took place in Male, Maldives on April 12th. 

NLCO is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working for the conservation of water bodies, environment and bio-diversity of J&K. The revolutionary initiative named Mission Ehsaas, is focused on empowering various organizations and has led to rapid and significant ecological restoration and sustainable development across Kashmir.

Over the past decade, Manzoor’s unwavering commitment has led to reviving dying lakes, springs, and water bodies. On February 24th, Manzoor posted another milestone achievement for Mission Ehsaas on his Facebook page confirming that all water samples from these rejuvenated springs were found safe and drinkable—a testament to the power of community-driven conservation and NLCO’s Mission Ehsaas in Ganderbal have passed lab tests with flying colors! 

“Humbled and honored,” said Wangnoo. “I dedicate this recognition to Team NLCO, our well-wishers, and every individual who believes in the power of collective action for nature. This award is a reminder that sincere, consistent efforts in service of the environment do not go unnoticed”, he added.

The Kashmir Valley has seen remarkable changes under his leadership in NLCO, reviving dead water bodies like Khushalsar and Gilsar in Kashmir and revival of springs. He has transformed endangered ecosystems into a healthy and flourishing natural habitat, contributing to pleasant climatic conditions and employment opportunities ensuring that the cultural roots are intact. 

Wangoo has been awarded the Environmental Activist award and Best Water Warrior for his tireless dedication to preserving Kashmir’s fragile water ecosystem. The recognition in Maldives adds another feather to his cap, gathering admiration for his work from all over the world with dignitaries such as former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton having personally appreciated him for his work to put Kashmir’s heritage and craftsmanship.
