Reports indicate that Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran has been appointed as chairman of the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation. The executors of Ratan Tata’s will, Mehli Mistry, Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy, and Darius Khambata, have appointed Chandrasekaran as the foundation’s chairman. The foundation associated with the inspirational leadership and lifetime legacy of the former Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata has now entered a new chapter in its history with this appointment.
The Tata Sons boss will officially set up an executive team and staff to manage daily operations. When the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation was established, it was a Section 8 company. In order to improve and benefit Indian society, the Foundation will fund technological research and development as well as charity activities.
The patriarch intended Chandrasekaran to be the foundation's leader in accordance with the will. There were no obstacles to Chandrasekaran's nomination because the Foundation is not connected to the Trusts, and the Articles of Association (AoA) restrictions are not applicable.
Burjis Taraporewala and R.R. Shastri were the named holding trustees of the Foundation by Ratan Tata, while Jamsheed Poncha was appointed CEO. The foundation's autonomous nature was always made evident by the patriarch. Since Ratan Tata’s demise, there has been some confusion regarding governance at RTEF.
