A Firm Counter Terror Commitment: Extraditing of Tahawwur Rana
President Trump brings the merriment in counter-terrorism by unilaterally approving the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, who is one of the important suspects in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. US President Donald Trump stated the fact that India would now be included in the list of countries for which the US would provide F-35 stealth fighter jets. This is a historic decision and places India in an exclusive club of nations that are allowed to buy such highly advanced aircraft, including NATO allies, Israel, and Japan. It also happened to be there for reviewing F-35 maneuvers in the skies in Bangalore during Aero India 2025; signifies the burgeoning military tie that is growing between the two countries. Besides, the US is also planning to sell more military platforms to India and explore co-production opportunities.
Concerning Energy Security and Civil Nuclear Collaboration
The two countries, the US and India, declared their commitment in the US-India Energy Security Partnership for cooperation on oil, gas, and civil nuclear energy. The two nations are now concerned with the full implementation of the US-India 123 Civil Nuclear Agreement, which focuses on the construction of commercial nuclear reactors of a design from the US to be built in India, especially concentrating on the development of small modular reactors of advanced design.
It is thus expected that these initiatives will serve to enhance energy security and allow further transfer of technology between the two nations.
Collaboration in Space Exploration
The two leaders have also turned their attention towards civil space cooperation. Therefore, by 2025, sending the first Indian astronaut to the International Space Station (ISS) is one of the signatories' common objectives. Other joint ventures include a major collaborative space mission, the NISAR mission, which is designed to map Earth's surface using dual radar technology.
