Macron Urges US, Iran to Respect Lebanon Ceasefire Deal

Emmanuel Macron has urged both the United States and Iran to fully respect the recently announced ceasefire agreement and ensure it applies to Lebanon conflict, where violence continues despite diplomatic efforts.

The appeal follows a U.S.-Iran agreement on a temporary two-week pause in hostilities. While the move was seen as a step toward easing tensions, there is still confusion over whether Lebanon is covered under the deal, leading to mixed signals from different sides and raising concerns over Middle East tensions.

After speaking with Donald Trump and Massoud Pezeshkian, Macron stressed that a ceasefire cannot be effective if it leaves out key areas like Lebanon. He warned that excluding the country could weaken trust in the agreement and disrupt ongoing peace negotiations.

  • France calls for broader talks to ensure lasting peace

The situation on the ground remains tense. Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have intensified even after the ceasefire announcement, with reports of heavy casualties and widespread damage, especially in and around Beirut. The escalation has raised concerns about regional instability and whether the truce can actually hold.

The United States and Israel have indicated that Lebanon is not part of the current ceasefire framework. However, Iran and several mediators believe it should be included. This difference in interpretation has added uncertainty and weakened the overall US Iran relations outlook.

Macron also highlighted the need for broader discussions beyond the immediate ceasefire. He pointed to issues such as Iran’s nuclear program, regional tensions, and security concerns in key areas like the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, addressing these challenges is essential for long-term global security and stability.

France has reaffirmed its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and called for an end to what Macron described as indiscriminate attacks. He also backed efforts to stabilize the country and reduce the influence of armed groups like Hezbollah, which remains central to the ongoing Lebanon crisis.

With ongoing clashes and disagreements over the ceasefire’s scope, the situation remains uncertain. World leaders continue to call for restraint and cooperation, but lasting peace will depend on whether all parties can align on the terms of the agreement and support a lasting diplomatic solution while strengthening international relations.
