King Charles will host German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, for a three-day state visit at Windsor Castle starting December 3, Buckingham Palace announced today.

This marks the first visit by a German president to the UK in 27 years, highlighting the strengthening bond between the two nations.

The 76-year-old king, joined by Queen Camilla, will greet the couple, with ceremonial events and discussions planned, though details are still forthcoming.

Despite his ongoing cancer treatment, which began after a diagnosis in February 2024, Charles remains dedicated to his royal duties, as shown by his busy 2025 calendar.

This visit builds on Charles’s 2023 trip to Germany—his first overseas as king—and follows recent state visits from French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Donald Trump, which boosted trade and diplomatic ties. “It’s a chance to celebrate our close partnership,” a palace spokesperson said, noting shared goals in security and economic growth.
