Israeli President to Meet Bondi Beach Shooting Victim's Families

Israeli President Isaac Herzog will visit Australia from Feb. 8 to Feb. 12 on an official Australia visit to meet families of victims of the Bondi Beach shooting and members of the Australian Jewish community, his office said on Tuesday.

The Bondi Beach attack occurred on Dec. 14, 2025, when gunmen opened fire during a Jewish Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, killing 15 people in what was described as a Sydney mass shooting and Australia’s worst such incident in decades.

Herzog’s office said he will visit Jewish communities across Australia and meet families who lost loved ones in the attack. The trip is intended to underline support for those affected and to engage directly with community leaders following heightened concerns around antisemitism in Australia.

Herzog, whose role is largely ceremonial, is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during the visit. Australian authorities have since introduced stricter gun control laws Australia-wide and expanded hate crime legislation, following parliamentary debates triggered by the attack.

The shooting was widely condemned across Australia and internationally. In the weeks that followed, federal and state governments moved to strengthen firearm regulations and broaden laws aimed at curbing extremist threats. Police investigations and an extremist violence investigation at the national level are continuing.

Australian officials have described the shooting as a targeted act of terror against the Jewish community, intensifying national discussion on community safety, counter-terror measures, and long-term security planning.
