Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will visit Paris on November 26 for talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s foreign ministry said on Monday. The meeting will focus on Iran’s nuclear obligations and stalled cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

In its statement, the French ministry said the talks would be used to “call on Iran to comply with its commitments and quickly resume cooperation with the IAEA.” Relations between the two countries have remained tense over issues linked to Iran’s nuclear programme and Tehran’s limited engagement with international inspectors.

The agenda will also include the situation of two French citizens who were released from Iranian detention but remain blocked inside the French embassy in Tehran. France has been seeking full freedom of movement for both individuals.

Iran has confirmed that Araghchi will also raise the case of an Iranian student in France who was conditionally released in October and is seeking unrestricted freedom. Tehran has argued that the legal process involving the student should be concluded before any wider progress in bilateral cases.

The visit comes at a time when France and other European governments have pressed Iran to address concerns ranging from nuclear oversight to regional security. While the meeting is not expected to produce immediate breakthroughs, it marks a rare high-level exchange between the two countries in recent months.

France has maintained that progress on nuclear cooperation and the status of detained or restricted citizens remains essential for improving relations. Iran, meanwhile, has continued to defend its nuclear posture and has sought diplomatic openings in Europe amid ongoing international pressure.

The outcome of the Paris talks will likely determine whether the two sides can move toward easing current tensions or remain locked in long-standing disputes over nuclear compliance and consular issues
