Former PM Khaleda Zia of Bangladesh passes, leaders mourn

The death of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, global leaders shared their condolences on Tuesday, remembering her as a key leader who greatly impacted her country.
Zia, who was also the BNP Chairperson, died at 80 early Tuesday at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. She had been dealing with health problems like heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver problems, and kidney issues.
The Interim Prime Minister of Nepal, Sushila Karki, was saddened by Zia’s death. She spoke of Zia’s long service to the public and her important role in Bangladesh’s move to democracy.

India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, also felt sorrow over Zia’s death. He recognized her leadership and sent his condolences to her family and the people of Bangladesh. Local politicians agreed, with Biplobi Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque saying her death was a big loss for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the country’s democratic movement.
Haque noted that Zia’s strong support for democracy, even when facing challenges, would always be a source of inspiration for the nation.
Khaleda Zia’s death closes an important chapter in politics. Her time as Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister and her loyalty to democratic ideas are well-known in the area, leaving a mark on both national and world politics.
