Erdogan Reshuffles Cabinet, Names New Justice and Interior Ministers

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has carried out a Turkey cabinet reshuffle, replacing the country’s Turkey justice minister and Turkey interior minister, according to a decree published in the Official Gazette Turkey on Wednesday.

Akın Gürlek, Istanbul’s chief public prosecutor, was appointed Turkey justice minister, marking the Akın Gürlek appointment as a significant development in Turkey political developments. He replaces Yılmaz Tunç, who had served in the role since June 2023. Gürlek has overseen several high-profile investigations during his tenure in Istanbul and is known for his firm approach to legal enforcement.

His appointment places a senior judicial official at the head of the ministry responsible for courts, prosecutors, and ongoing discussions around Judicial reforms in Turkey.

At the same time, President Erdogan appointed Mustafa Çiftci, governor of the eastern province of Erzurum, as Turkey interior minister. The elevation of Mustafa Çiftci follows the departure of Ali Yerlikaya from the post. The interior ministry plays a central role in Domestic security Turkey, including law enforcement, counterterrorism operations, migration management, and oversight of provincial administrations.

The Turkey cabinet reshuffle comes as the Erdogan government 2026 continues to manage economic pressure, security concerns, and institutional reforms. The justice ministry remains central to debates on legal independence and constitutional changes, while the interior ministry focuses on border control and internal stability.
