China to Deepen Trade and Investment Partnership with Tajikistan

China has pledged to expand trade and investment cooperation with Tajikistan, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during his visit to Dushanbe on November 23. He stated that Beijing intends to remain a stable and reliable economic partner for the Central Asian nation as both countries look to strengthen long-term ties.

Wang announced that China will increase imports of high-quality agricultural goods from Tajikistan, a sector that Dushanbe has been trying to grow to diversify its export base. He also encouraged Chinese companies to step up investments in Tajikistan, particularly in mining and mineral resource development, areas where China has been steadily expanding its presence.

Security cooperation was another key part of the discussions. Wang said China and Tajikistan will conduct joint patrols aimed at reinforcing stability along sensitive border regions. Tajikistan, which shares a long frontier with Afghanistan, has sought greater support from regional partners to bolster its security environment.

During the talks, Wang expressed appreciation for Tajikistan’s support on issues China describes as its core interests, including Taiwan. He reiterated Beijing’s position that it will not accept external interference and criticised what he called attempts by “right-wing forces in Japan” to rewrite historical narratives.

The visit highlights China’s broader strategic aim of deepening its influence in Central Asia through trade, infrastructure and security partnerships. Tajikistan, which relies heavily on foreign investment to develop its economy, views Chinese engagement as an opportunity to attract capital and expand market access.

Both governments will now focus on advancing the projects discussed, ensuring regulatory clarity for investors, and improving logistics that currently limit Tajik export capacity. The commitments made in Dushanbe mark another step in the growing political and economic alignment between the two neighbours.
