Indian citizens mourn 26 victims who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terrorist attack when Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared the violence entirely senseless. The statement published on X from Carney demonstrated his shock regarding the lives lost while conveying sympathy to both victims and their families.
"I am horrified by the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, a senseless and shocking act of violence that has killed and injured innocent civilians and tourists. Canada strongly condemns this terrorist attack. We offer our condolences to the victims and their families," he wrote.
The Canadian leader issued this statement because worldwide leaders including US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin showed their support for India during the attack while declaring their complete opposition to terrorism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated more than two hours to chair a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) session on Wednesday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar along with other attendees at this meeting.
India cut its diplomatic relations with Pakistan while declaring multiple security actions to respond to the Pahalgam terror assault. The government decided to remove all Pakistani military personnel in addition to postponing the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 and swiftly closing the Attari land border point. Each country plans to reduce temporary diplomatic personnel at the opposing high commissions down to 30 people before May 1. Under the SAARC visa exemption scheme Pakistani nationals cannot enter India anymore while those who currently hold such visas must depart India within a 48-hour deadline.
