Anil Ambani Leads Reliance Infra's Bold Step: Plans Rs 3,000 Crore Defense Exports

Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, the flagship company of Anil Ambani's Reliance Group, aims to earn Rs 3,000 crore from the export of 155 mm ammunition and aggregates by the end of the fiscal year in 2027, according to sources. The company expects to export Rs 1,500 crore of large caliber ammunition this year alone.

Reliance Infrastructure has already exported artillery ammunition and aggregates worth up to Rs100 crore. According to sources familiar with the matter, it now aims to be one of India's top three exporters of defense equipment. Reliance's main export market is the European Union, which has a high demand for artillery ammunition. Experts estimate the restocking market to be worth Rs 4,00,000 crore.

According to sources, Reliance has made inroads into the highly competitive markets of the European Union and Southeast Asia.

According to a Reliance Infrastructure spokesperson, ammunition exports are the company's top priority as it develops Dhirubhai Ambani Defense City (DADC) in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, with a capital outlay of Rs 5,000 crore.

DADC will be developed on 1,000 acres of land in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra's Watad Industrial Area. It will be the largest greenfield defense project in India undertaken by a private sector company.

The company is establishing an integrated explosives and ammunition manufacturing plant in DADC. Recently, Reliance Defense also announced a strategic partnership with D sseldorf-based Rheinmetall AG.

The collaboration will include Reliance's supply of explosives and propellants for medium and large caliber ammunition to Rheinmetall.

Furthermore, the two companies plan to engage in joint marketing activities for specific products and hope to expand their collaboration based on future opportunities. Reliance Defence will establish a greenfield manufacturing facility in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, to support this collaboration.

The manufacturing facility will have an annual capacity of up to 200,000 artillery shells, 10,000 tones of explosives, and 2,000 tones of propellants. This new facility will help Reliance Defense achieve its goal of being one of the top three defense exporters in the country.
