9The US and China said they would decrease tariffs on both sides for 90 days, suggesting that Xi Jinping's tough stand against Trump was good for his country.During two days of discussions in Geneva, Switzerland, the joint statement said the US would lower its tariffs on Chinese goods by 30 percent, and China would lower its tariffs on US goods to 10 percent. Throughout the talks, the US gave China what it asked for most. The 34 per cent additional 'reciprocal' tariff Trump imposed on China on April 2 has been dropped so that China is now taxing United States goods at just 10 percent--the UK rate--according to Bloomberg. The agreement lifted stocks worldwide and gave Trump a boost, as the dollar climbed and Chinese equities also improved. Both parties at the talks in Geneva agreed to make strong efforts to cut down on fentanyl, which might see the extra 20 per cent tariff removed. Xi Jinping stayed firm against America even after Trump hiked China's tariffs to their highest point for all countries. Unlike what other world leaders did, he declined Trump's request for a phone call and stayed firm.At a briefing, Trump said that the "relationship is very good" with China, adding that America is not looking to hurt Beijing. "China was being hurt badly. They were closing up factories. They were having a lot of unrest, and they were very happy to be able to do something with us," the US President added. The official Xinhua news agency cited China's white paper on national security, saying Beijing wants to build a stable relationship with the US. But the paper added that pressure and intimidation do not work with China. GLiXI JINPING'S RESISTANCE TO DONALD TRUMP PROVED BENEFICIAL FOR CHINA
