Samsung Electronics Appoints Mobile Chief TM Roh as Co-CEO
By Global Leaders Insights Team | Nov 21, 2025
Samsung Electronics on Friday named TM Roh, head of its mobile division, as co-CEO and chief of the Device eXperience (DX) unit, restoring the company’s leadership structure. Roh will oversee smartphones, TVs and home appliances.
Samsung had operated with a single CEO after the death of co-CEO Han Jong-Hee in March, with Roh serving as acting DX chief since April. His formal appointment marks a return to the company’s long-used model of splitting leadership between its consumer and chip operations.
The company said the change is aimed at strengthening the DX division, which includes Samsung’s flagship Galaxy smartphones business. Roh has led mobile operations since 2020 and has been central to Samsung’s strategy in foldable devices and premium-segment competition.

Brokerage NH Investment & Securities said Samsung’s memory chips business is currently benefiting from favourable market conditions while the mobile segment continues to generate steady revenue. The leadership shift is viewed as maintaining stability rather than signalling major change.
Samsung recently also named a new head for its Business Support Office, the unit that coordinates strategy across the wider Samsung Group. The announcement of Roh’s appointment followed soon after, underscoring a broader leadership reset.
Seoul shares of Samsung Electronics were down about 4.2% at the time of the announcement. Market watchers said the drop aligned with weakness across global tech stocks rather than concerns over the management update.
