North Korea’s Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui met with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Sunday, marking her second trip to the Chinese capital in just a month, according to official reports from both countries.

The meeting highlights the growing bond between North Korea and China as they work to strengthen their partnership in a changing global landscape.  During the talks, Wang Yi shared that China is eager to collaborate more closely with North Korea on international and regional issues, as noted by China’s foreign ministry.

The meeting follows a high-profile summit earlier in September, where North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended a grand military parade in Beijing alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Experts believe Kim is aiming to boost North Korea’s global presence, using the event to gain support for his controversial nuclear program subtly.

Choe delivered a message from Kim Jong Un, stressing that the relationship between North Korea and China remains strong and should evolve to meet today’s global challenges, according to North Korea’s KCNA news agency. During their earlier summit, Kim and Xi laid out a plan to guide their countries’ relationship forward, adapting to the demands of the international stage. Wang also updated Choe on China’s domestic developments and suggested more exchanges to share ideas on governance.

While in Beijing, Kim reaffirmed North Korea’s commitment to supporting China’s sovereignty, KCNA reported. This meeting comes as Xi prepares to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea, set for October 31 to November 1 in Gyeongju. South Korean officials expect U.S. President Donald Trump to attend as well, though the U.S. has not yet confirmed his participation.
